Judaism teaches that a great and dumb beast/man, The Golem, is
sent to protect Jews and advance Israel at certain times in history. The
rabbis call on him with magic language, formulas, and ritual. Some say
that the U.S.A. is this Golem and that we are now doing the will of the
rabbis—killing, torturing, and conquering their enemies in the Middle
East. But Jewish history says that sometimes, the Golem, like
Frankenstein, turns against the Jews and destroys its creators.
