  1. What a guy!

I love his new phrase, "Go eat a bagel, choke on it and die."

    I'll have to remember that.

  2. Fetch have you ever thought about making your own recordings of your show at the same time that the network you're on is recording it live? That way if your sound drops out at their end or is muffled and bad, you'll always have a pristine recording of your own voice at your end. Then you can salvage at least YOUR side of the audio from backup if there are any technical difficulties and edit it back in (or have the guys at Mami's edit it back in) over the screwed-up parts in an audio editing program like Audacity. You can record yourself INTO Audacity (free download on the net) or into a separate digital recorder. Now, if you can get your guests to record themselves also, then there will always be a good sounding show to salvage no matter what happens. This show you did was great in its content but some parts of it were downright unlistenable in audio quality. Since it was entirely solo, you could have easily salvaged it in pristine quality by recording it at your end.

  3. He did try it but skype is a bitch. It takes over your sound card and what not and so does audacity btw. It is possible but it's a pain and like you said Negen, the only good recording would be of him. Asking guests to do that is sort of ridiculous and some of them call in using phones anyway.

  4. Z - I've been using Skype with the free mp3 recorder for years. It records incoming and outgoing on separate tracks, which makes volume and quality adjustments simple. I disabled the automatic volume control long ago. - Bob

  5. Thanks for your input Bob. The real problem though is Fetcho is having bad Skype connections depending on where he is geographically and no amount of software is going to fix that.

By the way, anyone who has not disabled the automatic volume on Skype is a total newbie. LOL

  6. Neg - Zap,

Indeed since arriving in Saudi I have given the idea much thought, although no one does a better job than Zap getting the program edited and up on the net.

The prevailing belief locally is that the ISP's/Telco providers are literally "stepping on" and "slowing down" UDP packets. The studio said they did a trace route and discovered that the show was going out over a satellite, which is insane and impossible to control and get good audio.

We are looking into the issue.

We really DO care about the quality of the product and production. This show is going out over an FM station in KY and it really sucks to have inferior quality. We are considering abandoning Skype from this side but then we have the issue of dragging callers and guests into the conversation. I am worried about overloading the processor and memory on this old laptop of mine, an issue which I hope to remedy by the end of this or early next month.

To say the least, it is frustrating to maintain focus and continuity of the show under the conditions.
