Downloads dropping with the new cloud storage service
Let me know if you guys are still having problems with the downloads
dropping before you get the full file. I tested it with multiple
browsers and it seems ok but my browsers are old. When I tested it on my
neighbor's computer with the latest Firefox, it took me three tries
before I was able to get the full Graham Hart file. It might have been a
temporary bug that they have now fixed because they were updating the site. I Don't know.
Latest firefox here, just took three tries to complete Fetz's Raw Deal.
ReplyDeleteI gave up and just listened without downloading to mp3
DeleteP.S. Just a thought.. the initial dropout happened almost exactly two minutes into the d/l (at about two-thirds mark). Maybe the server allocates only 2 mins?
ReplyDeleteI played around with this for a while. My browser (chromium/linux) did complete on the second attempt. I've never seen a server with such erratic download speeds up and down like a yo-yo. I seemed to be when the speed drops to zero and the server prematurely ends the connection. So I tried downloading using wget in a terminal with auto resume - this is my standby solution if my internet connection is bad as it has a reliable resume feature.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that after the server connection closes upon resume there is disagreement about the total file length... often the server was saying only 1M left to download when there was in fact much more.. it would send the last 1M and declare the file complete. I have never had this happen in wget. This happened at anything from 42% to 75% complete. The times the full 70729971 byte download succeeded the download speed had been nice and steady. If speed had been erratic a failure resulted. IMO the issue is at the server end and is not a browser issue. It's just pot luck if your download completes first time.
I'm just wondering how many people download in a browser and don't realise that they didn't get the full file. If you didn't hear the Goyim Know song then you missed some of the show!
What you are saying makes sense but then again, it consistently downloads the full files on my old 32 bit browsers and on an up to date Chinese browser that I use for Skype PMs.
ReplyDeleteThe only time the downloads failed were in my neighbor's 64 bit Firefox.
About the time allocation, I tested that too by downloading other stuff simultaneously and was able to download the full graham Hart show in 4 minutes.
I'm riding on free space both at Sync.com and Koofr. I'll be able to pay for a full year at Sync.com in about 12 days. To make sure that I don't run out of space, I'll upload the bigger files at Sync.com and the smaller ones at Koofr.
The smaller files are less likely to fail.
