Iran Forces Lebanon Ceasefire | Prof. Mohammad Marandi
Professor Mohammad Marandi, an expert on American studies at the University of Tehran, joins Rania Khalek to break down the 10-day Lebanon-Israel ceasefire that took effect on April 17 — and Iran's announcement that the Strait of Hormuz is now "completely open for the remaining period of the ceasefire."

Marandi explains how Iran forced the ceasefire, stating bluntly: "Iran is not going to forsake Lebanon." He also warns that despite the pause, Tehran is actively preparing for a potential second phase of the U.S.-Israel war, one that could drag the global economy "into the abyss."

 
On April 16, Donald Trump announced that a 10-day ceasefire had been agreed between Israel and Lebanon. In response, Iran announced that the Strait of Hormuz was now "completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire". 

Despite these positive developments, the U.S. continues it massive military buildup in West Asia. Also, Israel reportedly violated the Lebanon ceasefire within hours of its coming into effect, and earlier this week, the chief of Israel's Mossad declared publicly that the Mossad remains fully committed to regime change in Iran.

To examine what all of this means, Dimitri Lascaris speaks with Professor Mohammad Marandi of the University of Tehran. They discuss whether a peace deal is a realistic objective at this time, and whether another attack on Iran inevitable.
