WHO are the Russians kidding?
They were the "bad guys"- THEY slaughtered 100+ MILLION people.
From the Holomodor Genocide in Ukraine, to Katin Forest to Operation Keelhaul. In this latter, it happened that at the end of WWII, the Stalinists got hold of US and UK POWs that the Germans had. So the scum told the US-UK that if they wanted these back, they would have to give them (the Stalinists) all the Russians in - including those that had escaped the 1917 Revolutiion ( the White Russians and their families). ANd this the other part of the scum Troika of the Allies, did. They rounded up every Russian they could find- men, women and children and handed them right over to the Stalinists.
There are Vet witnesses, of that time, that report, that as they were bringing in wagonloads of Russians, they could see, bodies hanging from trees - those prisoners that the Stalinist scum had hung right off. Still, the US-UK continued to bring in, hand over the Russians to the Soviets.
THat was Operation Keelhaul.
And so that was the way the Soviets/Stalinists operated, torturing and slaughtering people Not to mention the rape of the German women and girls AND the infamous Gulags. And they're still operated, just that nobody wants to talk about them.
At the end, the Soviet/Stalinists, did NOT give over the UK-US prisoners, but sent them to Siberia, to die there in terrible conditions. So, the Soviet/Stalinists even betrayed their former allies.
So, what is there to celebrate?
If I were the Russians today, I
wouldn't have the nerve to celebrate, but hide in shame!
Just like the Chinese NEVER mention the 1000 years of forced binding of feet of their females. And the islamics NEVER mention female genital mutilation... because they're a shame!
What is there for the Russians to celebrate today. It's a black blot in their history!
Well I'm not surprised. If communism really died in 1991 and Russia the democratic state emerged, why celebrate their dark past? The only answer can be is the USSR never died. And it confirms the writing on my avatar;

Just to be fair, Islamic female genital mutilation is not as prevalent as the one you didn't mention which is male genital mutilation known as circumcision which is practiced on a far greater scale in the Christian and of course Jewish cultures. Shame!
There is a general trend in Russia to whitewash their communist past. If Germany had not stopped Russia, the communists would have taken over Europe. Also, Russia would have collapsed if the US had not sent millions of tons of weapons to that country.
As for circumcision, that is Jewish and NOT Christian. Christians are baptized, not circumcised. The Church taught that it was a SIN to circumcise.

In Jewish controlled Christian countries it became the norm to circumcise boys in hospitals for "hygenic" reasons.
