Thanks, Zap -- this is one of the best shows out there.
You are welcome.
@ 15'19, Farren has a hard time explaining why the connection to needtoknow.news is slow but I know why.
That site uses Cloudflare "POS" to "protect" itself from ddos attacks. Well that's the theory anyway.
So when you go to a site that is "protected" by the assholes at cloudflare, you will see this:
"Checking if the site connection is secure
needtoknow.news needs to review the security of your connection before proceeding."
If you are using an old browser or one that is not part of the club of major web browsers then you are out of luck. You will see the message above in a perpetual loop and will not be ALLOWED to visit the site.
Apparently they want everyone to be using major browsers in the near future. I smell an internet false flag coming.
Ironically, one of my weird browsers is able to go through one of their security checkpoints without using a secure connection. ROFL.

Which exact browser and version is it that works for needtoknow.news? One thing you can try is finding the exact user-agent it is sending to it via https://www.whatismybrowser.com/detect/what-http-headers-is-my-browser-sending and then transplanting it into your other browsers. I've noticed that if you have a browser it otherwise balks at as outdated, changing your user-agent to something more modern will at least cause Cloudflare to proceed with its "verify you are human" check. Whether that browser checking code will actually run correctly in any of your older, user-agent-patched browsers will be a matter of YMMV, of course.
I don't think this is a conspiracy to lock out old browsers, incidentally. With every passing year, the internet is simply becoming infested with more and more botnets, and intelligent algorithms/AI are being used to ever greater extents by botnet herders to bypass captchas and other browser checking javascript libraries. I've given lots of thought to this and honestly wonder how much longer the web, as it currently exists, will remain viable. It won't be much longer before DDoS and other malicious botnets are able, through AI, to appear as authentic as real browsers being used by real humans. At that point, the world will have three choices: give up on the whole CDN model and let botnet herders go back to terrorizing badthink sites offline, have everyone switch to a verified identity-based browsing model (i.e. every server literally cards you for an out-of-band-generated, unforgeable identity, marking the final death of even superficial anonymity), or invent an entirely new model for the distribution of information that replaces the "centralized servers upon which distributed attacks can be focused" paradigm -- i.e. something completely distributed so that DDoS attacks affect every host equally, distributing the load over everyone everywhere and thereby rendering them useless. The latter would probably entail a system that was much slower and cumbersome to operate, though, and I don't foresee the public being sophisticated enough to tolerate the complication and latency it would involve. So I guess it's either option 1 or 2.
At this point, the best solution for people using non-mainstream browsers might simply be renting some cheap seedbox that lets you remote desktop in. Then you can use modern browsers in a VNC window and not give a shit what happens to the host machine as a result, because you can just nuke your account's entire VM image and repave from scratch every morning.
Excellent show all around, a standard for others to follow! Why? Because Farren is just an ordinary guy living in the middle of a civilization in decline and narrating it. Unlike others who live outside the country and roll with the aristocracy of foreign gov'ts, but proclaim to be "nationalists".
