Not every one was invaded. Sudan (among others), for example, requested to become a British protectorate in order to get rid of Islamic slavers.
I am ashamed of the brother wars my people were led into fighting, but it's farcical to think that Spain, France, or Rome et al, would have not attempted to dominate the globe as Britain did, were that fated. The game of empires continues as always, irrespective of whether individual nations choose to subject, or be subjected.
