U.S.: Syria can't hide behind Russia at U.N. Security Council like Israel hides behind the United States

Russian opposition to United Nations Security Council action on the Syria conflict should not be allowed to shield the Syrian government, the U.S. State Department said on Wednesday as Britain's push for council action met Moscow's resistance.
"We do not believe the Syrian regime should be able to hide behind the fact that the Russians continue to block action on Syria at the U.N. and we will make our decision on appropriate action going forward," State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf told reporters.

Large number of Greek Orthodox Palestinian Christians held a sit-in at the courtyard of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher to express sympathy with Syria which is exposed to threats and pressures targeting its stance and national role.
In a speech in front of the participants, Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Sebastia, Atallah Hanna said that we call on all honest people to reject the foreign intervention in Syria which is planned by western countries, particularly the US.

British anti-war campaigners to protest against Syria attack

Protest Sat August 31st - central London.

Thousands of British anti-war campaigners are to demonstrate against the Western war rhetoric against Syria.
The demonstration titled “No attack on Syria” was called by The Stop the War Coalition and Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) and is planned to be held on Saturday 31 August in central London.
The protesters will gather at Temple Place and march to Parliament and Downing Street in order to voice their opposition to military intervention against the Syrian government over the alleged use of chemical weapons near Damascus.  (presstv)

An anarchist group has claimed responsibility for a vast fire that caused major damage to a police firearms training center, under construction in Bristol.
The Informal Anarchist Federation (IAF), which has been involved for several arson attacks in southwest England before, said in a statement that they started a fire that is burning “more than 12 hours later”.
The fire was actually burning more than 24 hours after it started at the construction site at Black Rock Quarry in Portishead early on Tuesday.

The Syrian government on Wednesday asked the United Nations to keep its team of weapons inspectors in Damascus beyond their Sunday deadline, a request that could complicate the timeline for a widely expected U.S. military strike.
In a letter to U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the Syrian government claimed that rebels attacked Syrian forces with chemical weapons on the outskirts of Damascus on three days earlier this month.
