Subway removes ham and bacon from nearly 200 stores after 'strong demand' from Muslims who can only eat halal meat

Around 200 branches of Subway have cut ham and bacon from their menus, serving halal meat in response to calls from their Muslim customers.
The sandwich chain said 'following a strong demand from our Muslim customers', 185 stores in the UK and Ireland have introduced the meat, which is prepared under strict Islamic rules.
In Arabic the word halal means 'permitted' or 'lawful' and defines anything that is allowed or lawful according to the Qur'an.It is often used to indicate food - particularly meat - has been prepared in accordance with Muslim principles and techniques.

European Jewish Congress: Amid rising anti-Semitism, Jewish life in Europe unsustainable

President Moshe Kantor presents results of study on worldwide anti-Semitism in 2013; over the past year 554 “registered violent anti-Semitic acts” were recorded.

“Normative Jewish life in Europe is unsustainable,” European Jewish Congress President Moshe Kantor said on Sunday. Presenting the results of a study on worldwide anti-Semitism in 2013 by the eponymous Kantor Center for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry at Tel Aviv University, Kantor cited increasing rising anti-Semitism and decreased “fear and insecurity” as factors leading to a European Jewish decline.

Citing a November study by the European Union’s Agency for Fundamental Rights that showed that almost a third of Jews in several European countries are mulling emigration, Kantor asserted that “Jews do not feel safe or secure in certain communities in Europe.”

How to See Without Glasses

If you’re in a pinch… you forgot your glasses… or your vision is blurry… try this trick.

Make a tiny hole with you finger… look through it… and the world will become clear again. This works no matter how blurry your vision is. You can test yourself in this video below.

Science explains this all. Light is reflected off an object… enters our eyes… and hits our retinas to see an object. The lens focuses the light and corrals it into a crisp image.

The problem is the lens can only focus at certain distances. For instance, if you’re far-sighted, you can see a far distance… but you have trouble with short distances. To fix this, we have muscles that squeeze our lenses. This changes our focal distances… and decreases blurriness.

There is no blur since light is coming from the small opening. A small opening can focus light coming from any distance… making the image clear.
