I heard someone refer to DD's "personality" as being a bit too "Mr. Rogers" for them.
IMHO a lot of this stems from his repetitious platitudes about "every people deserves.." blablah. I think he needs to bore everyone with this pretend-idealism in every show coz of his past, and how the JSM has branded him-- he needs to keep countering/neutralizing that brand, unlike a new voice with the same message but without the baggage.
But DD could use some voice coaching- main prob AFAIC is the quick little soprano-peaks he hits at the end of some words, when he's trying to be persuasive. When he's talking about something more neutral, his delivery is more flat and steady, which I find more listenable. When he gets into a spiel where every few words gets sopranoed, ask yourself what he's talking about, what's the common thread in the soprano spiels?
I think he'd be more persuasive to even out the pitch throughout, losing the soprano peaks altogether-- there's just something "Mr. Rogers" and ultimately untrustworthy about them.
