I used to be a fan of screen writer Paddy Chayefsky, but now I see how he used a whole lot of euphemisms to distract his audience from investigating a certain 'cabal', the perpetrators at the helm of the wars, the Fed, the banks, governments and the media.
In the short scene linked, the ‘light bearer’ points the finger at:
The Primal forces of nature
The Arabs
The Nations
The Russians
The International System
Dominions
The Atomic Structure
IBM
Exxon
The College of Corporations
...all of which are working together to lead us into “a perfect world in which there is no war, famine, oppression or brutality”.
I agree with Persian Drum to a point. IMHO, Chayefsky was obviously a very gifted visionary, and "Network" was far ahead of its time.
The speech here is bang on, and it explains exactly what is going on today. The corporations are the nations. The bit about "primal forces of nature" is intentionally sarcastic: of course the laws of business are not immutable, but calling them so is ironic. It comes from the mindset of one who places money about else.
At the very end of the speech, Ned Beatty gives his vision of what heaven will be: people on prozac, working as slaves for the corporations, kept happy and fat and amused.
The whole speech is dramatic irony: we are made aware of why Beatty is wrong, but Howard Beale, Finch, is completely mad, and he buys into it.
Chayefsky doesn't talk about the swej because he is a wej and he can't see it. These people are raised in a cognitive dissonance hell of PRIDE, and achievement, THRIFT and sometimes industry. (A good friend went to see a kids play over at a nearby wej community center, and a sign on the wall read: "SWEJ ARE THE BEST!" No sh*t. Who the hell talks like that?)
If anyone is raised in that environment, being constantly told that they are better than everybody, and that God Almighty loves them more than everybody, that person is going to be a little wacked. The result is that, even when you call it to their attention, they still can't see it. It is blind spot on their retina, and in their minds. It is inconceivable that the swej are a cancer on the world.
It is nothing short of a minor miracle when people like Brother Nathaniel, and Morris 108 wake up and see what those people have done, and what they continue to do.
Chayevsky was a great writer, and he saw the future so clearly. He also believed in what he did: Chayevsky fought as a grunt in WWII, and saw action. He got a purple heart for injuries to his leg from an explosion. He wasn't some Harvard educated a-hole that joined military intelligence and tortured Germans after the war.
So to put a point on it: yes, Chayevsky talked about those other things; and yes, he didn't talk about the real problem. But I don't think it was intentional. He had a blind spot.
@ Christopher Marlowe - Although I wholly agree with you the real problem isn't that they are taught to love their own people or that they 'are the best' or 'chosen' - rather it is the fact they are taught that this 'exceptionalism' breeds a natural, almost genetic predisposition for Gentiles to hate and be jealous of Jews and that explains all anti-Jewish sentiment.
They know they are ethnocentric and "chosen" and all that as it is a core part of their ethnic culture and history but they simply believe that any non-Jew that takes issue with them is simply a Jew-hating Goy that can't beat their natural instincts to hate Jews.

You make some great points. Chayefsky was certainly one of the greatest screenwriters (one of my favourite films is 'Marty', with Ernie Borgnine -- a film full of heart). Also 'The Goddess' was poignant.
And Ned Beaty gives a great performance here, no doubt about it.

You mentioned Brother Nathanael -- I have known quite a few Jewish people in Sydney and here in London, who, having read the New Testament (and the corresponding Old Testament prophecies) came to honour Jesus as the Messiah. Their newfound 'identity in Christ' meant that they no longer defined themselves through the Talmudic prism of 'Jew vs goy', but rather came to understand that -- in Christ -- all men are placed on an equal footing, to paraphrase Paul in his letters.
