Looking for another way to divide Iraq. Republicans in the United States are pushing to separate the country into three separate countries, one Sunni, one Shia and one Kurdish. This is not the first time that Washington has called for the sovereign country of Iraq to be divided. During the 1990’s the US and the UK enforced no fly areas over Iraq and effectively caused the country to be divided along sectarian lines. In 2006, Joe Biden, then a Senator, called for dividing Iraq into three areas: Shias in the south, Kurds in the north and Sunnis in central Iraq. Why does Washington want to see the dissolution of the sovereign country of Iraq?
