Hour 2... ffs, it's no SODDER, it's called SOLder. SOL, like the sun in Spanish. There's an L in there. SOLdering iron, not SODDERing iron.
"The American pronunciation is the original English pronunciation. The term “Solder” is derived from Middle English “Souder”, which in turn came from Old French “Soudeur”.
The pronunciation has always been L free, but the French term originates from the Latin “Solidare”, and many centuries ago, English re-latinized a lot of vocab and gave the term an “L” again, but it was always silent.
In Britain even going into the 20th century it wasn't uncommon for people to use the “American” pronunciation, in fact online there are stories I've seen of older adult British people commenting that they seem to recall their grandparents or great grandparents pronouncing it like that when they were children and having been confused by it.
The long story short though, this is another instance of Americans retaining an older pronunciation, while the language in Britain has changed. You'd be amazed how many American pronunciations that aren't actually from America."
