US Government Begins Rollout Of Its 'Driver's License For The Internet'

An idea the government has been kicking around since 2011 is finally making its debut. Calling this move ill-timed would be the most gracious way of putting it.

A few years back, the White House had a brilliant idea: Why not create a single, secure online ID that Americans could use to verify their identity across multiple websites, starting with local government services. The New York Times described it at the time as a "driver's license for the internet."

Sound convenient? It is. Sound scary? It is.

Next month, a pilot program of the "National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace" will begin in government agencies in two US states, to test out whether the pros of a federally verified cyber ID outweigh the cons.

A congressional candidate named Allan Levene is proposing a solution to Israel’s problem with the Palestinians (since 1948) by creating a second ‘Israeli’ state in Eastern Texas. According to the Times of Israel, Mr. Levene’s idea would only work if “eminent domain” is established by the US government and if Israel withdraws to it pre-1967 borders. That would set the stage for a ‘New Israel’ within the United States:

Dem congressman: I can make racially charged comments ‘because I’m black’

A Democratic congressman refused to apologize for calling Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas an “Uncle Tom” and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell a racist, saying he has license to speak because he’s black.
CNN’s Dana Bash on Wednesday asked U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., if he stood by his assertion that Thomas “doesn’t like black people, he doesn’t like being black.”
“Well if you look at his decisions on the court, they have been adverse to the minority community, and the people I represent have a real issue with an African-American not being sensitive to those issues,” Thompson told Bash.Bash asked if his language was a racially charged.
“For some, it is, but to others, it’s the truth,” Thompson responded.
Such language wouldn’t be acceptable coming from a white person, Bash said. Thompson didn’t flinch.
“But I’m black,” he said.
