Better to know than to be completely unaware, in my opinion.  There is no requirement to believe in anything.  I find i get a lot more out of the book when approaching it as a study rather than from a belief perspective... because i don't do that anymore... i used to... it started out that way.  You have to take belief right out of the picture...
