I think what we might be calling this whole thing is what Michael Collins Piper refers to as "International Nationalism"... respecting everyone, enjoying their differences, but also keeping racially intact.
I will tell you when Hollywood first plugged interracial relationships. I know because I was there and part of it. The actor Sidney Poitier starred in three very important movies regarding this topic.
The first was "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" with Kathryn Hepburn and Spencer Tracey. He played a highly ethical doctor who wants to marry the daughter they have raised to have liberal and "progressive" values.
The next was Raisin in the Sun. I forget the plot but in it he is a heroic kind man helping a beleaguered (I think) blind girl who of course cannot see his skintone.
And the last was To Sir With Love which was huge in Great Britain. A cool black teacher who rallies a group of rebellious white slum Rocker kids to care and learn.
That is when it began.
A lot of other such responses were sparked as I listened to you rambling on and making such great sense. Oh, yeah... and I love it too when I do a little ~ "random act of anti semitism" (love that phrase)~ and someone sparks to it. Up in Canada, Israeli Satellite that we are, it does not happen often. But it is so delightful to toss out a line at a party and have someone alive and aware nibble.
Anyhow Dana.... keep up the good work. You young'uns got to carry on the torch and you are so very capable of carrying it far.
