I really appreciate you posting this, Mr. Mami. This really seems like it would be a hobby that I would enjoy doing, and is something that I would at least like to try for a while.

This is legal in Italy and New Zealand but here I don't know. Be careful. Bourbon and Scotch both need to age for years in charred oak barrels to be potable so one needs storage or you could give yourself one hell of an ulcer. Incidentally peeps you need alcohol like a hole in the head. One thing I admire about the chosenites: no need for intoxicants. Stick to beer or vino if you must. Much easier to make also. RBG.

The value of distilling is more than making a batch of "shine".

If you NEED very strong alcohol to drink because you are weak spiritually or addicted, then sure, go ahead and allow yourself to become toxic, shorten your life span and ruin your health in a multitude of ways. It is better to make your own than to feed the Chosenite Tribe.

Water. You can make your own distilled water. Distilled water can be handy for a variety of things; such as batteries, cleaning glasses, etc. Distilled water is pretty damn pure. So pure, most of the minerals are missing. One can add drops of minerals to bring it up to speed. Then, you have some very very clean drinking water.

For those that do not need strong "shine", or, just are not interested, beer and wine are options. Homemade beer is much better than any beer I have ever bought in a store. I only make beer twice, 1981 and 1994. The first batch was amazing! The second batch was pretty good, but still, it was better than most of the piss water American brands. Homemade beer has more "body" than most of the crap in stores. It is more filling and YOU control the ingredients, not the Chosenite freaks. You can make it taste pretty much any way you want. All sorts of wines can be explored if desired. Dandelion wine anyone?

Making your own drinking water, beer, wine or "shine" is a most satisfying experience. Amaze and help yourself and others by doing it.

Side note:
Six weeks ago I lost power for a week. While the power was out, the water was cut off for three days. I usually keep about 3 gallons of distilled water (with minerals added) in one liter glass bottles. My neighbors were trying to get rides into town (only a few could drive in the mess we had) to get drinking water and food. I watched them coming home with plastic jugs of water. I also had no need to get food as I keep enough for several months. During this week I even washed a load of clothes (hand washer $25) by catching water runoff from my roof into a 12 gal plastic tub. I haven't used a electricity to wash my clothes in over two years and my clothes have never been as clean as they are now. Now, I use laundry "soaps" instead of petrol/chemical detergents. Soaps and detergents; big big difference.

Basically, knowing how to distill is a great start to empower yourself and a wonderful first step towards self-sufficiency.
