Benedict Arnold was a spendthrift and a con artist (or thief) before he became a traitor. As a spendthrift, Benedict Arnold formed an association with David Solesbury Franks, a Jew and successful purveyor. Thereafter, Arnold became a con artist, taking Army goods for his own gain -- as well as for the gain of David S. Franks.
