Some of the writings of Maimonides shows that it's not just an issue of "Zionist Jews" or "Ashkenazi Jews," as some try to limit it to, as Maimonides said it's OK for Jewish doctors to not treat Gentiles, unless there would be a big backlash. What a great guy, eh?
Maimonides was a Sephardic Jew, and is considered the greatest Jewish scholar of medieval times, and there is even a quote putting him on a par with Moses of the Old Testament.
Maimonides was right about usury, however, and it's too bad that these days, you have self-identified Christians like Tom Woods supporting it in the name of the "free market," and ironically, being a Catholic, ignoring what past popes have said about it, specifically Pope Alexander II who excommunicated anyone who engaged in it.
From George Whitehurst-Berry's 2007-2012 show that I was privileged to guest host, and was cancelled under suspicious circumstances, George brought up the nesek issue of usury being considered a bite, and the double standard not only permitted but encouraged by Yahweh in the Old Testament (also considered Jesus to most Christians), of charging interest only to non-Israelites, in order to enslave them.
There is a verse about that, and also, the double standard of forgiving the loans to fellow Israelites every seven years but keeping them for Gentiles, until the time of the 50-year Jubilee, which brings up the issue of the necessity of debt forgiveness whenever there is interest (usury), especially compound, involved, in that it's a mathematical certainty that someone will be short the 11th marble out of 10 to pay the bills.
In contrast, engaging in usury is considered one of the biggest sins, and in what is considered the last chronological chapter of the Qur'an, sura 5, Allah declares war on the usurers, and the allegation is made in a different place that the Jews were actually prohibited from engaging in usury, but changed it to allow it for non-Jews, because such a weapon is obviously incompatible with a universal God for all of humanity.
