Nah, I closely looked into that crash. The plane was a POS, essentially a bunch of loose parts flying in close formation...and the dumb-ass pilot basically ran out of gas because his gauges were fucked up.
They almost cleared the trees and made the field but most of the people survived since there was no fire due to there being no gas.
