my mom had many VW Käfer (beetle) in a row, as they were cheap and we never rich, sure true in winter we had to scrape the frost inside and also the water puddle in the care footrooms froze, little frozen puddles, was like that in the 1970s, but at least they were reliable, cant remember they broke down at any point.

My mom had one like this one same color too:

but it had burgundy leather seats and had been retrofitted with an electric heater. It was reliable but it didn't like humidity during winters.

german winter esp in the north are mild, rarely we got -10°C, last winter even rarely snow, i remember we had one giant winter 1978 with one meter of snow here, but now its just 2-3cm an inch at best. Dont even need really winter tires here in north germany, sure south germany is different.

If Ted Kennedy had been driving a Beetle, he would have been President of the US!

Btw my very first car was a brand new '69 Beetle, $1,700.

It had an optional gasoline fired heater which produced prodigious amounts of heat. (Similar to the one on Ricky Nelson's DC-3)
