A June UN Office on Drugs and Crime World Drug Report named Israel for its “star role.” More on that below.
Israel is a serial lawbreaker. Its rap sheet already overflows. This revelation adds another reprehensible black mark.The State Department‘s 2012 International Narcotics Control Strategy Report says:
“Israel’s illicit drug trade is regionally focused, with Israel as more of a transit country than a stand-alone significant market.”
“The authorities continue to be concerned with illegal pharmaceutical sales, retail businesses which are suspected money-laundering enterprises, and corruption accusations against public officials.”
An earlier State Department report said “the Israeli drug market continued to be characterized by high demand in nearly all sectors of society and a high availability of drugs including cannabis, ecstasy, cocaine, heroin, hashish and LSD.”     (Stephen Lendmann @ rinf.com)

Uh Oh: 47 Million Food Stamp Recipients Are Having Their Benefits Cut Back On November 1st

47.6 million Americans are about to have their food stamp benefits cut, and most of them have absolutely no idea that it is about to happen.  Needless to say, a lot of them are going to be very angry when they discover that they cannot buy as much food for their families anymore.  The reason that this is happening is because a temporary boost to food stamp benefits that was put in during the last recession is expiring.  But most of the people that are having their benefits cut will not understand this.  Most of them will just be very upset that the government is “taking money away” from them.  And considering the “mini-riots” that we witnessed earlier this month when the system that processes food stamp payments went down for a few hours, it is obvious that a lot of food stamp recipients can very easily be pushed over the edge.  So what would happen if we have another “debt ceiling crisis” in Washington D.C. early next year and food stamp benefits are temporarily cut off completely?

Wherever “austerity” has been tried in Europe, it has resulted in protests and riots.  Could a similar thing happen in this country?

NBC News is reporting that ALL food stamp recipients are going to have their food stamp benefits reduced in November.  This is certainly not going to put those living in poverty in a good mood…

Everyday, you're a criminal in the eyes of the state.

James Duane, a professor at Regent Law School and former defense attorney, notes in his excellent lecture on why it is never a good idea to talk to the police:
    Estimates of the current size of the body of federal criminal law vary. It has been reported that the Congressional Research Service cannot even count the current number of federal crimes. These laws are scattered in over 50 titles of the United States Code, encompassing roughly 27,000 pages. Worse yet, the statutory code sections often incorporate, by reference, the provisions and sanctions of administrative regulations promulgated by various regulatory agencies under congressional authorization. Estimates of how many such regulations exist are even less well settled, but the ABA thinks there are ”nearly 10,000.”
If the federal government can’t even count how many laws there are, what chance does an individual have of being certain that they are not acting in violation of one of them?     (washingtonsblog)

IT was the silence that made this voyage different from all of those before it.  Not the absence of sound, exactly.  The wind still whipped the sails and whistled in the rigging. The waves still sloshed against the fibreglass hull.  And there were plenty of other noises: muffled thuds and bumps and scrapes as the boat knocked against pieces of debris.  What was missing was the cries of the seabirds which, on all previous similar voyages, had surrounded the boat.
