The earth is round (a sphere) they knew this and the size before Columbus. Columbusly had the size as half its real size, he would not believe the king of Portugal orthe king&queen is spain. The flat earth theory is there to make truthers look stupid. W

The simplest way to look a the orbits is look from outside the solar system, the earth goes around the sun, the moon goes around the earth.
The "dark" side of the moon always faces the earth. The "dark" of the moon is NOT DARK all of the time. It is confusingly called dark. The dark side actually can vary fully lit to not lit by the sun, as it rotates with respect to the sun. This is the the phases of the moon, full, new , etc.
Paul is confused on that.
Remember Nick Kollerstrom said the back of the moon sticks out and nobody really understands the moon).
William said the moon does not rotate about the earth, but the sun only, this is wrong.
If you put the earth as the centre of the solar system, you spirals type orbits ( I remember from school or somewhere). These spirals are not wrong but confusing and it is better to just look from outside the solar system. I think that is why William got confused. The moon does orbit the earth, the earth orbits the sun (with the moon orbiting the earth, thus the sun too).
Those phases of the moon are given for the side of the moon we see (the side opposite the dark side) but the similar (but opposite) would apply to the dark side.
Bill is exactly correct. Paul was assuming a partial lunar eclipse.
Everyone has an ego and it must be held in check if one honestly seeks answers and not mere self-affirmation. Paul loses control to his ego because his ego is under attack. Maybe if I had a voice and eloquence approaching his I would fall into the same trap but I do not.
Jim you have improved in this regard over shows past far enough far enough. Your cutting off communication with me over a pic of Trump & Ivanka displays a similar issue; the inability to process and acknowledge as valid information which contradicts tightly held assumptions of personal relationships among powerful people you hold or once held in esteem. Do not congratulate yourself as an open minded person because that is not the case. Psychopaths excel in the political realm, most of our past Presidents have been psychopaths. I'd also invite discussion on the comment thread below that article. No-one points out that his link to Wu's article, which is the primary reason for the blog post, does not work! What are the chances of no-one in a long comments thread helpfully pointing that out if these are all good folks? What are the chances if these are all just trolls pretending to genuinely have their dumb, off-topic arguments?

Question never asked: Why did the Soviets build the N1 at trenendous cost in Rubles, manhours, and lives if the Moon was unobtainable? Why didn't they blow the whistle on an Apollo hoax and rescue their prestigue while diminishing that of their competitor?

Around 2003, I posed the same question as uncle28 to a friend of mine who was going on about the landings being fake. His response was similar to the one I wrote here but at the time, I didn't "get it". Approximately five years later, I finally understood what he was saying.
I've thought about that, it's possible. If Putin has irrefutable 9/11 intel its a tremendous trump card that he may be holding back or using as blackmail. Perhaps this is why Trump, who is surrounded by 9/11 perps and who is an Israeli puppet, was so eager to establish better relations with Russia.
To see if the shadow on the daytime moon makes sense, hold a small ball up next to the moon in direct sunlight, the shadows on the moon and ball will be the same.
