Libya: Four Years Down the Road

Turbulent events in Syria, the international community is closely watching, deflect attention from the situation in Libya. In this circumstances, the fourth anniversary of the murder of the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi (October 20, 2011) went by virtually unnoticed. It dotted the ‘i’s and crossed the ’t’s in the internal Libyan conflict that commenced in February 2011.

Had it not been for the powerful NATO airstrikes sweeping through Libya destroying its military facilities and killing personnel, the situation could have been quite different. Back then, they were harping that Gaddafi was allegedly the main obstacle in the way of the “nation rebelling against oppression” and that once he was ousted, the blood shedding would stop, and peace, prosperity and democracy would blossom.

But life proved these statements wrong. After Gaddafi’s death, colonel’s weak opposition fell apart and former military elite jumped to each other’s throats in a fight for a “piece” of the “authority pie.”

U.S.-Turkey "Buffer Zone" to Save ISIS, Not Stop Them

And while the US seeks to sell its "buffer zone" strategy under a variety of pretexts - from protecting refugees to fighting the so-called "Islamic State" (ISIS/ISIL) - it is admittedly a tactic aimed instead at America's true objectives in Syria - the destruction of its government, the division of its people, and the eradication of its sovereignty.
In 2012, it was clear that the region north of Aleppo and across the border into Turkey, had become one of two primary points (Jordan being the other) of staging and entry for NATO-backed terrorists operating in Syria. It was from across the border north of Aleppo and Idlib that NATO-armed, funded, and trained terrorists from Libya first flowed into Syrian territory and from where the initial 2012 invasion of Aleppo emanated.
While NATO opened up several other fronts along Syria's northern border, this has remained their primary focus - specifically for the purpose of taking Idlib, Aleppo, or both, establishing them as a seat of government for a proxy regime, and as a strategic and logistical springboard to wage war deeper into Syrian territory from.
While initially the West attempted to make ISIS appear to be sustaining its fighting capacity within a vacuum deep within Syrian and Iraqi territory, allegedly sustaining itself on ransoms and black market oil, the scale of their operations has since betrayed this narrative, revealing immense state-sponsorship behind them.

Why Russia is Serious About Fighting Terrorism and the U.S. Isn’t

It has become increasingly clear that the US’s main objectives in Syria is not their expressed goal of ‘fighting ISIS’. Their goal are regime change, isolating Russian influence, balkanization of Syria Iraq, and the creation of failed states. US presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton herself recently stated that ‘removing Assad is the top priority”. The presence of ISIS and other terrorists groups serves these interests.

The US sees the Syrian state as one of the last spheres of Russian influence beyond the borders of the former Soviet Union  and a threat to the US’s Israeli ally in the region. The US has a history of using terrorism to topple governments friendly to Russia. Al Qaeda itself was borne of the US objective to topple the Soviet friendly government of Afghanistan. The dismemberment of Russian-friendly Serbia and the creation of Kosovo was done via the same means.
