Apparently Iran is familiar with playing to the cameras. Linda Ellerbee, a one time correspondent for NBC News, was in Iran during the embassy hostage circus. She said that every morning about 10am Iran time, the crowd of "protesters" would start to arrive and group together because they knew that they had to put on their show and get filmed by the press because it would take time to get the film back to New York, edited, to be shown on the evening news. But the "protesters" in the crowd new that there was no sound, only pictures. Ellerbee said that the people would move their mouths like they were shouting and screaming, but they knew there was no reason to strain themselves by making any noise. She said that see this large crowd of people supposedly screaming but making no sound was really freaky.
