No matter how good your band is, without a great drummer, you are just a group of beat-offs.

Exactly!!! Furthermore, I'm also sick and tired of guys saying drummers tend to be flakes!!
A flake is someone who generally makes plans with you, promises to do things with or for you but can never seem to follow through. When confronted with their behavior they usually get defensive and run away. This is simply not true!!! Following through is what what drummers do!!! We drummers know its the good looking charismatic front men that are the problem!!! :)

Caution - the following are not "Self-Hating Musician" jokes - just musings from my Hollywood days. Q. What do you call a musician without a girlfriend? A. Homeless. Q. What do you call a Trombone Player with a pager? A. Optimist. Ah yes. Remember pagers and pockets full of payphone change? Back when you could still hear Metal on FM radio that was not part of a car commercial. Garage bands at house parties that spilled into the streets and real methamphetamine...where have all the good times gone? Better yet - who took them and why?

LOL, I have heard a couple of those jokes! I have to say I love brassy funk now that I'm over the hill. Even trombone! The 80's and early nineties were fun and yeah, poverty drove me out of music and into mining :) It was logical progression for guy living near the Canadian shield!

Yeah it seemed that rock started really changing in the mid nineties. To paraphrase Frank Zappa - "It isn't dead, it just smells funny." :)
